Top 100 Women in Games: Charlotte Woolley

There’s no doubt that video games talent runs in the Woolley family – both Charlotte and her twin sister Catherine made it into the Top 100 Women in Games.

For Charlotte, her career as a passionate tester began just under five years ago at Testology.

As she puts it: My sister was already a games designer at the time, and I loved games so much that I needed to be a part of them too.”

Within a week or so of being at the firm, Charlotte was sent off to work on Little Big Planet 2 at Media Molecule’s studio on behalf of Testology – she adds: and the rest is history”.

Having been a lover of games since she was young, one of the biggest sources of pride for Charlotte is the simple pleasure of being able to work on great games for a living.

Among those to have kept her motivation for games going are Little Big Planet 2, LittleBigPlanet on PlayStation Vita, Tearaway, World of Warriors, Broken Sword 5: The Serpent’s Curse and Oddworld: Stranger’s Wrath.

Charlotte remarks that while many may see their job as a chore, she continues to have endless passion for testing and all its intricacies.

Every day is brand new, with new games and different platforms – she often jumps from console games, to mobile apps, and even to website titles, constantly keeping things fresh.

And during her time at Testology, Charlotte has seen the company itself mix things up more.

She jokes: Whilst I used to be the lone female tester for some time, we now have a lot of women working at Testology – they make the best testers.”
