F2P games can’t be "high quality", says Namco Bandai

Namco Bandai has issued a warning to publishers looking to hop aboard the free-to-play bandwagon.

Speaking at Cloud Gaming Europe yesterday Namco Bandai’s European senior VP Olivier Comte claimed that an increase in F2P titles will result in a drop of overall game quality – a trend he believes could affect the entire industry.

"Free-to-play games can’t be high quality," he argued, as reported by Industry Gamers. "We need to put certain value on certain work.

"When you’re a big company you can’t take risks too quickly, you can’t make a change just because there’s a fashion for a couple of years; you want to be there in 20 or 30 years."

Comte added that if consumers develop a taste for F2P titles it will be a further attack on the validity of triple-A console titles in the market.
