FIFA 12 is UK’s best-selling sports game ever

Electronic Arts’ FIFA 12 has smashed records for both the series and the sports genre in the UK.

GfK Chart-Track data shows that the game has generated more revenue through retail than any previous FIFA titles and any other sports title to date – making it UK’s best-selling sports game ever.

The news comes as FIFA 12 racks up its fifth consecutive No.1 – it is now joint second for the best chart run of any FIFA title. However, it will have to hold onto No.1 for a few more months to top the series’ current record: 11 weeks running for FIFA Road To The World Cup ’98.

FIFA 12 shattered the records set by its predecessors when it launched in September 2011. The game outstripped FIFA 11’s week one performance, selling 3.2m units worldwide in its first week1m of which were taken by the UK.

At launch it was the third strongest launch week ever for a multi-format release in the UK.
