The first week of 2019 was incredibly quiet in terms of new releases, which allowed FIFA 19 to come back at the top of the UK weekly charts, despite a 62 per cent drop in sales week-on-week. As reported last week, FIFA 19 was the best-selling boxed title in the UK in 2018 with over 1.8m copies sold.
It replaced Red Dead Redemption 2 at the top, which had been at No.1 for three consecutive weeks. RDR2 had to settle for No.2, with a 64 per cent decrease in sales. All the titles in the charts actually saw a sharp decrease in sales week-on-week – over 50 per cent for a vast majority of them.
The market was down 59 per cent in units and 59 per cent in value week-on-week but there’s nothing alarming here as it actually on a par with where it was last year, if not better. In terms of units shifted, the market was down 0.4 per cent year-on-year and it was up 6.5 per cent in value compared to the same period last year.
With a few titles releasing this week, we’re hoping to report on more interesting charts next Monday though. In the meantime, here’s the Top Ten for the week ending January 5th (data courtesy of GfK/Ukie):
