The PC re-release of Final Fantasy VII that went live over the weekend was a mistake.
The RPG was made available to download in the US for a short period of time over the weekend. However, plenty of eager fans had already coughed up $12.70 for the game. And upon download, these consumers found that the SecuROM DRM had failed to authenticate.
But a company dealing with the situation tells MCV that this isn’t an error with the game’s DRM system. Rather, the title was is not yet ready and was simply released prematurely.
Square Enix is expected to release a statement shortly.
