Firaxis Games has announced Sid Meier’s Civilization: Beyond Earth, revealing the game will release later this year.
The development studio officially confirmed the news over the weekend, but it was an early info leak picked up by NeoGAF late last week that initially spilled the beans.
The game will be a spiritual successor to the 1999 sci-fi strategy title Alpha Centuari. Players start on an alien planet, and will select from Lush, Airy, and Fungal world types.
Players can expand their empire both across their home world, as well as beyond it; and can even be the first human to explore new planets – potentially encountering neutral creatures and races.
Civilization: Beyond Earth is set to launch on Windows PC this fall.
