Flipkart’s best selling game of 2012 is…

The highest selling game at Flipkart.com, which is India’s largest video games retailer, in 2012 wasn’t even released this year.

Amidst big releases like FIFA 13, Assassin’s Creed 3, Max Payne 3 and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive, it was 2008’s Grand Theft Auto IV that topped the sales charts for 2012.

Looking at the platform-wise break-up, GTA4 made up most of its numbers on PC, while FIFA 13 topped the Xbox 360 and PS3 charts for the year. EA’s football juggernaut finished second in the overall charts.

Max Payne has always been a popular franchise in this country where Rockstar Games can seem to do no wrong, so it wasn’t surprising to see Max Payne 3 best the likes of Assassin’s Creed 3 and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive on the individual and overall charts.

Both of Rocksteady’s Batman games, neither of which released in 2012, also made mid-table appearances in the overall top ten.

Interestingly, only four of the top ten overall best sellers of 2012 were actually released this year, and looking at the individual platform charts, all those older games did the business on PC, while console gamers leaned more towards new releases.
