A game based on cult slasher film franchise Friday The 13th is in development, it is claimed.
EGMnow reports that the title was announced by the original film’s producer and director, who has hinted that an experienced” developer is heading the project, although its identity remains unknown.
The title is apparently an online asymmetrical co-op that sees a group of survivors with limited resources fend off the pursuit of another player in control of the iconic Jason Vorhees.
It will reference both the film franchise and the upcoming TV series.
With a new television series on the horizon and plans announced for the thirteenth instalment of the film franchise, we felt the timing was right to finally explore Jason, Camp Crystal Lake, and the rest of the Friday the 13th story in interactive form,” creator Sean S Cunningham said.
We have some exciting new ideas for a game that supplies plenty of replay value, while delivering the kinds of thrills and scares that fans of the franchise have come to expect.”
The first Friday The 13th was released in 1980. By 1989 there were eight films, with a ninth arriving in 1993. The series made a comeback of sorts last decade with three films being released including 2003’s Freddy vs Jason, which saw Jason square off against the star of the Nightmare on Elm Street films, and the 2009 reboot entitled simply Friday The 13th.
