GaBoom impresses on Dragons Den

New video games trade-in site GaBoom enjoyed a welcome piece of mainstream TV coverage last night when founder Jess Ratcliffe appeared on BBC2 show Dragons’ Den in an effort to secure investment in the website. first emerged in July. The site offers users the chance to swap their used titles with other gamers.

Sadly, Ratcliffe wasn’t able to secure investment – though she did enjoy plenty of praise from the clearly impressed Dragons thanks to her extremely professional pitch and obvious personal qualities.

It was a fantastic experience,” Ratcliffe told MCV. Being able to take part in a show that you have only ever seen on TV before, is just amazing and I was very lucky with my time in ‘the Den’ and the positive comments and great advice that I received from the Dragons.

We experienced such a large surge in traffic last night that our servers overloaded and have been experiencing surges in traffic ever since. We’re back online now though! We have seen a great jump in users and I hope that will continue over the coming days.”

Despite leaving the Den empty handed, popular Dragon Peter Jones saw a bright future for Ratcliffe and even went as far as to offer her a job at one of his companies. However, Ratcliffe assured MCV that she’s sticking with GaBoom for now.

I am 100 per cent focused on growing GaBoom and making it a success,” she added. I completely understand their positions and their comments and I feel I am very lucky that overall, they were positive. They gave me great advice, which I have taken on board and acted on.

The features we offer now (and that I presented to the Dragons) are only the start for GaBoom so – fingers crossed – you will be seeing a lot more from GaBoom in the future.”
