Develop conference week is getting busier as Game Dev Heroes returns for a second year. The event will take place on the first day of the conference, 9th of July, though there’s no time announced yet.
Nominations have just closed for this year’s event, with the organisers telling us it has over 500 nominations across the twelve categories this year. So don’t feel too sore if you don’t make the shortlist.
The 2019 Game Dev Heroes awards categories are:
- Programming
- Design
- Art & Animation
- Sound
- Production
- QA
- Writing & Narrative
- Marketing & Community
- Leadership
- Progression Advocate
- Unsung Hero Award
- Outstanding Contribution
This year’s event is happening at the Komedia Theatre, which Google informs us is just a 14 minutes walk from the Brighton Metropole, though it’s through some of the nicest parts of Brighton, in the summer, so best allow for a little longer to stop for a snack or a drink on the way.
The organisers told us that: “Game Dev Heroes is an industry award ceremony with a difference, shifting attention from the studios and games to the people behind the scenes and their contributions. Recognising and celebrating brilliant developers, resourceful support staff, inspiring leaders and positive role models.”
The shortlist for each category will be announced shortly and the award’s judging panel will then determine the winner of each award. Judges announced include Thad Frogley, Boss Alien; Tamsin O’Luanaigh, nDreams; Emma Turner, Outplay; Bill Donegan, Special Effect; and Ed Perkins from Square Enix.
The event remains free to attend, those looking to attend should visit the Game Dev Heroes website and signup to the mailing list to receive notifications when tickets are made available.
