GAME is opening WHSmith concessions

Some branches of WHSmith will soon play host to a number of new GAME concession stores.

WHSmith used to be a player in the games market but pulled out during the PS3 and Xbox 360 era. However, with GAME’s store count now significantly less than it once was, and other High Street rivals and supermarkets having dialled back their gaming aspirations, the pair clearly think a new opportunity awaits.

GAME Retail is rolling out a small number of concessions as part of an ongoing trial across WHSmith stores in 2016,” GAME told MCV. Alongside our 300 High Street stores it means easier access to top video games, accessories and merchandise for our community of gamers nationwide.”

As seems to be the way every Christmas, the next few weeks will be crucial for GAME, whose last financial report revealed a 81 per cent year-on-year profit decline.

GAME has previously operated concessions stores out of Debenhams and Comet.
