Game4u launches digital downloads service for PC, Mac

Specialist games retailer Game4u has launched its own digital downloads service for PC and Mac games; the first of its kind in India.

The service is currently in beta and includes around 250 games. Of the major publishers, only EA titles are currently available, as are several lesser known games from 1C and a few smaller publishers/digital distributors.

Prices for EA’s games are comparable to their physical counterparts, and the site also offers select DLC, such as the Battlefield 3 Close Quarters and Back to Karkand packs.

The navigation is a little cumbersome at the moment. It doesn’t include a landing page for the ‘downloads4u’ section, but rather a drop-down list of genres within the site’s main navigation.

There’s no client to be downloaded; you simply buy a game by paying via net banking or debit/credit card and the site gives you a direct download link along with the product code and a PDF with download instructions.

The downloads section is a little rough around the edges at the moment; understandable since it’s in beta. I purchased GTR Evolution and the download page was titled Files for Assassin’s Creed Revelations for Windows”, which incidentally isn’t available for digital purchase on Game4u yet.
