Gameloft responds to copycat claims

Gameloft has hit back at critics who say its games are clones of popular console titles such as Uncharted and God of War.

Several gaming websites have posted comparison articles and videos, suggesting Gameloft has borrowed content heavily from other titles. But the firm says ‘many games are just re-expressions of the same ideas’, reports IGN.

CEO Michael Guillemot: The video game industry has always played around a limited number of themes. There is maybe one new idea a year.

If a type of game is not available, then you should make it. The damaging thing is if you do a bad expression of a good idea.”

Gameloft develops games for iPhone, iPad and Android devices. It has produced titles including Shadow Guardian, Nova and Hero of Sparta, which have previously been labelled clones of Uncharted, Halo and God of War by various game critics.

In December 2010 the firm announced its first line of high definition games for set-top boxes.
