GameStop to provide mobile phone plans

In an unexpected move, Gamestop will begin offering mobile plans in the US on AT&T’s network.

Techcrunch reports the move, with a website for Gamestop Mobile going up and subsequently being pulled over the last several hours seemingly confirming the news.

Gamestop will not actually be selling phones themselves, but will provide sim cards and mobile plans for those who bring in their own devices. That said, stores dotake trade-in electronics, so the game retailer could begin selling unlocked GSM phones to customers if they so desired.

Gamestop Mobile’s plans range in price from $5 to $55 depending on data needs and whether the user chooses a pay-as-you-go method or pre-paid monthly plan.

The company just last week posted a 12.5 per cent decline in like-for-like sales for its fiscal Q1.
