GDC: Nintendo reiterates 3DS update plans

Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime confirmed that a worldwide system update will be released for 3DS in late May.

Discussing the new handheld’s long-tail launch during Nintendo’s keynote at GDC 2011 in San Francisco, Fils- Aime confirmed the update would introduce a number of previoulsy announced features that would not be available out of the box.

These will include the eShop – where users can purchases retro handheld titles and original DSiWare – the internet browser and the ability to transfer previous DSiWare purchases to the 3DS.

He also suggested the 3D camera’s functionality could be updated in the future.

After Iwata recently hinted at recording 3D footage on 3DS, people were enthused,” he said. We’re enthused too. Stay tuned for an update.”
