Gfinity running eSports tournaments at EGX with $110,000 of prizes

Gfinity have partnered with EGX organisers Gamer Network to run StarCraft 2 and CS:GO tournaments at the Birmingham event.

The expo, taking place at Birmingham’s NEC from 24 to 27 September, will now feature an eSports arena for up to "tens of thousands" of fans.

The competitions will feature the final stages of Gfinity’s StarCraft 2 and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive seasons, which have been running throughout the year at their arena inside the Fulham Broadway Vue Cinemas.

"Following our successful debut at the show in 2014 we have decided to bring the culmination of our CS:GO and StarCraft 2 seasons to the NEC and 80,000 people,"said Martin Wyatt, Head of Partnerships at the UK-based eSports company. "With over $100,000 to play for and the very best playing talent in the world in attendance this is an amazing opportunity for the EGX crowd to witness world class eSports live and in person."

The tournaments will draw some of the biggest teams in their respective discplines, including Fnatic, Ninjas in Pyjamas and Team EnVyUS for the CS:GO title.

"eSports is exploding worldwide," added Gamer Events Managing Director David Lilley. "We’re delighted to be working more closely with Gfinity to bring the UK’s premier eSports experience to EGX. Visitors will see the world’s finest gaming stars compete at the highest level and may even pick up a trick or two to help them win next year’s prize pot."
