GfK Chart-Track says it now covers 95% of the market

GfK Chart-Track is changing how it is calculating the market value in the UK.

The firm believes it now covers 95 per cent of the physical games market, having previously estimated it to be 90 per cent.

Data from this year will now be only up-weighted by five per cent. Only a handful of retailers do not use Chart-Track, such as Toys R Us.

The decision follows a meeting between major publishers, retailers, UKIE and ERA

The fact is that key launch titles are getting bigger and account for more of the overall market and it is also true that Xbox One and PS4 titles released so far are concentrated further towards mainstream retailers,” said Chart-Track director Dorian Bloch.

Chart-Track has made the decision as the Top 20 games – which the firm covers mostly via its panel – continues to demand an increasingly high number of the overall sales.

This is alongside the increased market share of the major retailers and the general decline in the number of stores overall.
