Halo 3 most played XBL title in 2009

Microsoft’s Major Nelson has released the 2009 Xbox Live Charts, and they show that Bungie’s Halo 3 has managed to pip Activision’s trio of popular Call of Duty titles to claim the coveted number one spot.

In terms of the number of unique users logging onto Xbox Live to play the game, Halo 3 remains the most popular XBL title of the last 12 months over two years after it was first released.

It’s all Call of Duty after that, though, with Modern Warfare, Modern Warfare 2 and World at War claiming second, third and fourth spots respectively.

In the Xbox Live Arcade listings, which are ranked in terms of full game purchases, EA’s download-only Battlefield 1943 reigns supreme with Castle Crashers and Trials HD claiming second and third.
