HD remakes pave way for new Metal Gear and Silent Hill titles

Konami is bringing both Silent Hill HD Collection and Metal Gear Solid HD Collection to retail in a bid to pull in new fans ahead of the next main instalments in each series.

MCV understands the Metal Gear pack – which includes Metal Gear Solid 2, 3 and PSP title Peace Walker – will arrive in the UK this November. It will be released on PS3 and Xbox 360, while the Silent Hill HD Collection will be exclusive to PS3.

The Konami box sets will be released ahead of Metal Gear Solid Rising and Silent Hill:Downpour.

These collections allow people to revisit their favourite games, while also raising awareness for newer titles that will continue to build those franchises,” Konami’s European brand manager Christopher Heck told MCV.

There’s huge demand for such collections. We have a wave of people who know of things like MGS and Silent Hill through more recent titles, but perhaps have no way to play the originals due to unavailability or they just don’t have the formats they were released on.

These act as companion releases, and celebrate Konami’s heritage. While we are releasing new entries in both the MGS and Silent Hill series, our upcoming Birds of Steel and NeverDead games show we are also committed to creating brand new IPs.”

Similarly, Sony this month brought out Uncharted, Ratchet & Clank and Resistance PS3 bundles containing two previously released games in each series. They come ahead of Uncharted 3, Resistance 3 and Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One later this year.
