Helldivers is wiping save data if your controller runs out of power

The PS4 and PS3 versions of Helldivers suffer from a bug that wipes a user’s save data should their controller run out of battery mid-game.

Fortunately, developer Arrowhead has identified the cause and is working on a fix for the quite unique bug.

We found an issue related to the controller dropping its connection to the game and then when you reconnect, the game spawns your avatar before it manages to load your old save,” it said on the PlayStation forums. This results in what looks like lost progress (but your local and cloud saves are still intact), and often results in progress being lost if you let the game finish its save.

We have fixed this specific occurrence and are investigating other ways that save data might get reset as we are seeing reports of unrelated save reset issues. The fix for this specific issue will be in patch 1.03.”

In the interim, players are advised to make sure their controller has a full charge when you start playing and not to switch controllers should the battery run low – instead be sure to plug the controller in. Short of that, should a controller run out of juice then players should restart the game without saving.

Helldivers was released on PS4, PS3 and Vita last week.
