HMV targeting former Zavvi stores

Entertainment retailer HMV has confirmed that it’s upcoming temporary Christmas stores will target locations now vacated thanks to the demise of Zavvi and Woolworths.

The idea is to bring a viable entertainment offer to towns that are currently short on options, according to GigNews. HMV chief exec Simon Fox said of the move: There are going to be a large number of towns and high streets that won’t have an entertainment presence this Christmas.”

The provisional plan is to close all the stores in question in January, though it is thought that any that prove financially viable may live on permanently.

Only two locations have been named to date – Loughborough and Burnley.
