Homeworld HD becomes Homeworld Remastered

Gearbox has announced that the games once referred to as Homeworld HD and Homeworld 2 HD have now become Homeworld Remastered.

The SKU includes both games, which have received a significant HD/Ultra HD/4K-friendly graphics overhaul, as well as the original unaltered versions.

Previously, we’d been referring to this effort as Homeworld HD but as work progressed it became clear that title didn’t properly communicate the scope of the work,” the studio said.

This is more than a simple re-release or up-res – given the input we’ve received from fans, mod makers and series veterans, the result is full-fledged re-mastering of nearly all aspects alongside the archival Classic versions.”

The official site carries a concept for what the game’s Collector’s Edition, due out some time this Autumn, may or may not look like.

Crafted with the assistance and guidance of the original creators as well as the help of a passionate fan community, Homeworld Remastered Collection introduces Relic’s acclaimed space strategy games Homeworld and Homeworld 2 to modern players and operating systems using the latest advances in graphics rendering technology,” it adds.

Gearbox acquired the rights to Homeworld from former owner THQ in April of last year (which were also being sought by Aspyr and Paradox, it transpires) and announced plans for HD re-releases of both the first and second games a few months later.
