iPhone 4s launch put into perspective

Apple’s confirmation that the iPhone 4 sold 1.7m units in its first three days on sale (despite some fairly substantial PR problems) is even more impressive when considered in comparison to the launch numbers enjoyed by other tech releases.

ITProPortal reports that the iPhone 4 bettered its immediate predecessor the iPhone 3GS by 600k units. The iPhone 3G managed 1m unit sales its first three days and the original 2G iPhone managed just 40,500 in the same time period.

The iPad shifted 107,000 units in its first three days of release, though it has since gone on to sell in excess of 3m. The world’s most popular mobile phone, the Nokia 1100, sold 357,000 units in days one, two or three.

And despite its hefty asking price, the iPhone 4 even managed to better the performance of record-breaker Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, which managed 1.78m unit sales in its first five days on the market.
