JAPAN: Mario Bros Wii sells 4m units

New Super Mario Bros Wii has become the first Wii game to sell 4m copies in Japan.

The latest sales results show that 4,001,276 units have been sold since the game first hit Japanese stores on December 3rd, 2009. Famitsu.com reported the sales milestone today which was picked up by Andriasang.

New Super Mario Bros Wii became the platform’s top-selling game in March this year as it reached the 3.5m sales mark. It is the first title to go quadruple platinum on the Wii.

The Super Mario Bros franchise is the world’s best-selling video game series of all time with over 240m unit sales worldwide.

Nintendo also launched a red special edition Wii in October which includes a copy of New Super Mario Bros Wii.
