Japan: PS3 cements November success

Following a period of

sustained success in Japan

, Sony is celebrating a home console sales victory with the news total sales for the month of November saw PS3 outsell Nintendo’s rival Wii – the first time Sony’s machine has prevailed over a four week period since it launched last year.

Reuters

reports that for the month ending November 25th, Sony sold 183,217 PS3s whilst Nintendo shifted 159,193 Wii’s. Industry analysts claim that the combination of the recent global price cuts and PS3’s growing software catalogue are the keys to this success.

Nintendo’s Wii seems to be powering ahead in the US where it recently enjoyed a commanding position throughout the Thanksgiving sales period, and high demand means that the console continues to be hard to find on the UK High Street.

However, Sony CEO Howard Stringer recently claimed that the upsurge in sales seen in the US following last month’s price cut marks a turning point for Sony’s machine in the territory.
