Leaked Switch console was stolen, Nintendo reveals

A Switch console that made it out into the wild far ahead of the machine’s official launch on March 3rd was stolen from a retailer.

A NeoGaf user last week claimed to have received his Switch pre-order early from an unspecified stockist. These claims were backed up by a video demonstrating the console’s menu system.

Earlier this week, individuals claimed to prematurely purchase a small number of Nintendo Switch systems from an unspecified retailer,” the platform holder told IGN. Nintendo has determined these units were stolen in an isolated incident by employees of a US distributor, with one system being illegally resold.

The individuals involved have been identified, terminated from their place of employment and are under investigation by local law enforcement authorities on criminal charges.”

The forum user has also now said that they have shipped the system back to Nintendo, although concrete details remain thin on the ground.

Pre-release console excitement is the best, isn’t it?
