Manchester United and Fnatic competing to sign eSports team

Former Premier League champions Manchester United are reportedly eying an inroad into the eSports scene.

eSports News UK reports that United wish to sign an unnamed professional European Overwatch team who are currently signed with another organisation. Furthermore, eSports outfit Fnatic also have designs on signing the same group.

The site understand that Fnatic have already made an offer and United are preparing a counter of their own. A third party may also be circling.

Man U would not be the first football team to enter the eSports market. In May both West Ham and German team Schalke made eSports signings. Earlier this year Vfl Wolfsburg signed an English FIFA player.

However, for a Premier League club to be in a bidding war with an eSports organisation is certainly a first, and possibly a further sign of things to come.
