Gamescomco-organiser the BIU says that 2014 tickets sales have ‘surprised’ them.
The European event attracted a massive 340,000 visitors last year. Although the trade body stopped short of predicting 2014 will be bigger, it did admit that tickets have sold out far faster than ithad anticipated.
This follows news that Gamescom will continue to take place in Cologne for at least the next five years.
At this time I am very confident that this year’s Gamescom will be very strong,” said BIU MD Dr. Maximilian Schenk. Just take a look at the ticket sales: mid-July the tickets for Saturday were sold out. Thatis nearly one month before the event started and earlier than ever before. And two weeks before Gamescom started, every single day of the show was sold out. We are surprised a little bit, too, but this year’s Gamescom seems to be more attractive to visitors than ever before.”
Asked what to expect from this year’s event, Schenk said: Visitors can expect many games for the next generationof consoles, that will give a glimpse of what is possible with the new hardware.”
He added: The success of Gamescom in the last five years shows that Cologneis an attractive location for an event like this. In this city Gamescom has become the main European trade show and event about computer and video games. Today the show is seen not as a German event, but as a European event.”
