Brenda and John Romero to deliver Develop:Brighton keynote

Tandem Events, the organisers of Develop:Brighton, has named Brenda and John Romero as its keynote speakers for this conference, with their talks opening the Develop Conference on Wednesday, 12 July.

The Romero’s have over 50 years of combined experience in the games industry, with Brenda joining the games industry in 1981, and John co-founded id Software in 1991.

Brenda is perhaps best known for her work on the Wizardry series, but she’s credited on over 22 different games, with work on the Ghost Recon series and Jagged Alliance. Her keynote is ‘Stay: How Not to Burn Out and Thrive in the Game Industry’, and looks at the positive reasons people remain in the games industry, and explores lessons learned from veterans of the industry who’ve been in for the long haul.

At id Software, John was an essential part of the development team that created Wolfenstein, Doom and Quake. John’s keynote ‘A Life In Games’ will explore experiences spanning almost 40 years of experience with games, from the Apple II to the Apple iPhone, before casting his mind into the future to see what comes next.

“We’re delighted to announce Brenda and John Romero as keynote speakers for Develop:Brighton 2017,” said Andy Lane, managing director of Tandem Events. “With a combined total of nearly 70 years’ experience working in the games industry and a surname that helped forge it into what it is today, I’m incredibly excited to hear their insights on topics old and new.”
