UK games industry charity GamesAid has announced its popular Gem Golf & Spa Day event raised an impressive 62,607.56 this year.
The event was held on June 30th and invited members of the industry to enjoy a day of friendly golf tournaments or spa treatments. All proceeds – a 19 per cent increase over the 2010 iteration – will be donated to GamesAid’s chosen charities.
"GamesAid would like to thank the team at Gem and their Gold Sponsors, EA, MCV, Microsoft Xbox 360, Nintendo, THQ and Ubisoft – plus the Silver Sponsors Netgear & Nuance for an amazing event," said GamesAid chair Sarah Seaby.
"In these testing times, to increase the amount raised for GamesAid is simply incredible and we very much look forward to next year’s event."
Event organiser Richard Stickler added: "After an exceptional support from the industry, the hard work from the Golf & Spa Day team and the people at Gem, we managed to smash last year’s fundraising total by more than 10,000.
"It’s going to be head to beat that in 2012 but I know the team – consisting of Louise Powell from Nintendo, alongside Keeley Munden and Emilie George from Gem – will do everything we can to make that happen."
Next year’s Golf & Spa Day will take place on July 12th, and will once again be held at The Grove in Hertfordshire.
