Read May’s MCV: Rebellion’s Jason Kingsley plus our huge North East regional spotlight

The latest issue of MCV is out now and you can read it for free right here.

For this May issue, we look into Rebellion’s recent and ongoing growth, the company now has four games studios, a motion capture business, a TV and film studio, plus a big franchise in Sniper Elite. Yet it still remains independent in every measurable respect. We catch up with Jason Kingsley, who explains the thinking behind the company’s latest moves, and gives us his insight on Epic Game Store, Xbox Game Pass and Google’s Stadia.

Meanwhile, we’re introducing our new bi-monthly regional spotlight format in this issue. For this first outing we look into the thriving North East scene. A dozen northern games companies tell us everything there is to know about North East England, its cluster of talent, its quality of life and its booming immersive tech expertise.

We also talk to Rovio’s CEO Kati Levoranta and EVP of games Alex Pelletier-Normand about Angry Birds’ resurgent 2019, and how they’re celebrating the franchise’s tenth anniversary.

Elsewhere, we talk to the games music experts behind Cord Worldwide and Laced Records, Alastair Lindsay and Danny Kelleher, about how to choose the music for your game, the pros and cons of licensed soundtracks versus bespoke scores, and how the digital shift in games has made the future of vinyls (very) bright.

We also look into Improbable’s first in-house studio, in Edmonton, the home of Bioware, and how it’s recruited the firm’s general manager to create a new RPG using SpatialOS.

Last but not least, we highlight Aardvark Swift’s student-focused event and its trio of awards that took place in April and go behind the scenes of Cultist Simulator with Weather Factory’s director Lottie Bevan.

The latest digital edition can be read here for free (and is embedded below) and here are the full contents of this month’s issue:
