Riot Games president Marc Merrill has been victim to a Twitter hijack that has exposed a possible expansion or spin-off concept for the studio’s popular MMO League of Legends.
Merrill tweeted on October 13th: “Yup, someone got onto my Twitter account. Yup, someone shared some old screens from one of the many prototypes we’ve experimented with.”
Tweets from the hacker, who referred to himself as Jason, have been deleted, but his trail has been recorded by Kotaku, among others.
While in control of Merrill’s account, the hacker encouraged followers to retweet messages he posted of confidential images related to unreleased projects.
“Well, I think this would be a good time show off Riot’s card game, who wants to see pictures? 50 re-tweets for pictures? – Jason (God),” he posted.
Soon after the hacker published a screenshot displaying the login screen for League of Legends: Supremacy (below), which, according to the hacker, is a completed project. He also uploaded template artwork for the cards believed to be part of this project.
“I have the server and the client source,” he wrote. “Did I mention the game was fully completed, but never released? Riot doesn’t want you to play this game. Take it up with them.”
Following this, he then threatened to upload 200-megabytes worth of material, but is believed to stopped after being contacted by Merrill.
Once Merrill had retaken control of his Twitter account, he played down the League of Legends: Supremacy leak: “We’re always working on a variety of new ideas for League & beyond. Lots of experimentation that may never see the light of day :)”
