Top 100 Women in Games: Rhianna Pratchett

One of the world’s most successful games writers, Pratchett began her career as a journalist for PC Zone before writing scripts for the likes of Mirror’s Edge, Thief, Heavenly Sword, Prince of Persia and for Codemasters’ Overlord series.

Arguably her biggest achievement so far was in successful reinventing Lara Croft by writing the story for the 2013 Tomb Raider reboot, which went on to pick up numerous awards.

She’s currently working on this Christmas’ Rise of the Tomb Raider sequel and is dabbling in the mobile space by working on Rival Kingdoms for Space Ape.

Getting to help reinvent Lara Croft has to be up there as one of my favourite achievements,” Pratchett told us last year when she named amongst 2014’s Brit List.

Although I have a real soft spot for the Overlord games. They were great fun to work on.”

Pratchett names Tim Schafer, Christy Marx and Ken Levine as the games developers she’s been most influenced by, while also counts Joss Whedon and Mary Shelley as her heroes.

It’s a great honour to be nominated alongside such fantastic women,” she adds.
