Gaming trade body UKIE have published a report that shows access to talent as the biggest concern to UK games businesses ahead of triggering Article 50, the process colloquially known as Brexit.
This report is the result of a lengthy consultation process by UKIE that has run between September 2016 and February 2017, where UKIE captured information from over 75 UK games industry studios, publishers and service companies, followed by a tour of eleven round-tables across the UK that saw them talking to a further 70 games businesses and legal experts.
This report "The UK games industry’s priorities for EU Negotiations" is the result of this consultation, and was presented to MP’s and senior civil servants at a Westminster event designed to highlight the negative effects Brexit could have on the UK games sector.
UKIE have also pointed out in their report that many UK games clusters have benefitted from EU funding, and this, in addition to the multi-million Euro investment fund designed to regenerate inner-city areas. UKIE claim in their report that it’s essential that this funding continues.
CEO of Ukie, Dr Jo Twist OBE, said, “We know that evidence is key to informing policy and want the information presented in this report to inform the direction that the country will follow both in our upcoming negotiations with the EU as well as our ambition to become a truly Global Britain – home to top diverse international talent, pioneers and innovators from the tech and creative industries who’ll shape the world ahead."
