Microsoft explains ReCore’s lower Xbox One price point

ReCore has a $40 RRP in the US – that’s some way short from what you might expect for a first party triple-A title.

Xbox marketing manager has on the TXR Podcast, as reported by GameSpot, cited a number of factors for the decision – including the fact it is a new IP.

"We wanted there to be no barriers,” he said. We wanted to be able to give you a great triple-A that gives you $60 of value but if you aren’t sure, not let that be the barrier of a tradeoff of, ‘Hey there’s a $60 game and there’s this game.’

"So that’s why we priced it at $40. We hope that will increase its chances of having success as a new IP.”

Greenberg also explained the September release date: " It doesn’t have an existing base of fans. So we have to build that fan base. With new IP like that… launch timing matters a lot. So that’s why you’re seeing us launch it as our first title of the season.”

Another reason why the pricing might be considered odd is that the game comes from a pretty recognisable name – Mega Man creator Keiji Inafune. However, with his most recent project suffering a troubled development and a less than stellar reception, perhaps he is not the draw he once was?

ReCore is due out on September 16th and is an Xbox Play Anywhere title for Xbox One and PC.
