MIDWAY GAMERS DAY 08: Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe

Midway has

confirmed reports from earlier in the week

by officially announcing Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe at its Gamers’ Day in Las Vegas.

Executive Producer Ed Boon revealed that both Batman and Superman would be involved in the new title, and promised more news at E3.

Boon also unveiled two new fighting mechanics – Freefall Kombat and Klose Kombat.

Freefall Kombat sees characters fighting as they tumble, landing on various stages to scrap some more – before they break through and continue to fall.

Klose Kombat zooms in on the fighting and view battles at close range.

"The DC Universe characters are some of the most popular and enduring characters in the world," said Boon.

"By combining them with the Mortal Kombat mythology, all new gameplay modes and features, plus a completely unique storyline crafted by top comic writers, players will now be able to answer the question: what would happen if Batman fought Sub Zero?"

Developed by Midway Amusement Games in Chicago, the title is due for release on PS3 and Xbox 360 in the autumn.

Only Superman, Batman, Scorpion and Sub-Zero have been confirmed thus far, but Boon said more characters would be announced at E3. He added that each character will have signature moves.

The game’s story has been written by co-founder of Marvel Knights Jimmy Palmiotti and Justin Gray , who in the past has written Jonah Hex and Crisis Aftermath: The Battle for Bludhaven.
