Mininova threatened with £4m fine

The world’s largest BitTorrent site has been ordered to remove all Copyright files on its site or face a fine of up to €5 million (4.4m).

A Dutch Court has given the site three months to complete the order, say reports.

The Utrecht District Court agreed with Stichting Brein, a Dutch-based organization funded by entertainment groups, that Mininova was inciting users to violate copyright.
.
Mininova’s ‘notice and takedown policy’, which allows copyright holders to remove infringing torrents, is not sufficient, the Court said.

The news comes two days after the ISP host of fellow leading BitTorrent site The Pirate Bay was ordered to close the portal down.
