More than 12.2bn Unity-powered mobile games were downloaded in the last year – breaking down to to an average of 386 downloads per second.
These figures were revealed by the firm’s chief marketing officer Clive Downie during today’s Unity keynote at GDC 2016.
Downie also reports that the number of games installed actually rose in February 2016, with 1.4bn downloads throughout the month – 578 per second.
The popularity of mobile games made with Unity meant that 30 per cent – one in three – of the 1,000 top grossing games across all platforms since GDC 2015 were powered by the firm’s engine. This is up from 25 per cent when compared to the previous year.
Downie went on to discuss the growth of Unity’s various new services introduced over the last year. More than 6,500 advertisers now use Unity Ads, up from 1,700 last year, while the number of publishers using the service rose from 20,000 to over 126,000.
“In 2015, we paid out to Unity ad publishers more revenue in total than Unity made in licensing from the engine,” he said.
