95% of Monument Valley’s Android installs were not paid for

Developer Ustwo has highlighted the piracy problem that continues to blight Android gaming.

Interesting fact: Only 5% of Monument Valley installs on Android are paid for. 40% on iOS,” the studio said, although it went on to stress that a certain proportion of those installs would have been legitimate in one way or the other.

Android statistics don’t include Amazon Store data by the way. So 95% piracy rate isn’t affected by the free day we did,” it added. We’re not complaining at all by the way, it’s to be expected. It’s just interesting data.”

Regardless, the game has still been a big hit for Ustwo, even if piracy has robbed it of greater achievements. In November it was revealed that the game had sold 1.4m units.

The game, which was a winner in Apple’s 2014 awards, was struck by a consumer backlash last year when its creators had the audacity to ask for payment in exchange for new content.
