Angry Birds VR unveiled for Samsung’s Gear VR

Rovio has bought mobile sensation Angry Birds to virtual reality for the first time.

The company this weekend unveiled Angry Birds VR for Samsung’s already available Gear VR.

VR Focus reports that the game has been jointly developed by Rovio and Brazil’s Imgnation Studios. Road to VR adds that the game was unveiled at the Rovio-backed Rock in Rio event, where some attendees were able to get some hands-on time with the title.

Only one screenshot is available thus far, and it suggests players will observe the action from behind their avian protagonist as opposed to from the side.

The demo on show at the festival featured landmarks particular to Rio, so it’s not 100 per cent clear how far it has yet progressed beyond the proof of concept stage.

While Imangi’s fellow mobile hit Temple Run has already made the jump to VR, Angry Birds represents the highest profile brand to enter the VR world to date.
