App Store downloads pass 2bn

More than two billion iPhone applications have been downloaded from Apple’s App Store, the company has announced.

“The App Store has reinvented what you can do with a mobile handheld device, and our users are clearly loving it,” said CEO Steve Jobs

The App Store has over 85,000 applications available, and there are over 125,000 developers signed up to the iPhone Developer Program.

“The rate of App Store downloads continues to accelerate with users downloading a staggering two billion apps in just over a year, including more than half a billion apps this quarter alone,” added Jobs.

The store – accressed by iPhone and iPod Touch customers worldwide – sells games, music tracks, ringtones, and a huge variety of apps for numerous uses and tastes.
