The latest game from the lucrative FIFA franchise has become the top grossing iPhone app across more than 30 worldwide storefronts, publisher EA has announced.
FIFA 12 for iPhone and iPad managed to sell 879,000 in its first week, according to early data. It is estimated that, calculating the game’s price tag across a range of countries, the game will have already generated a minimum of $2 million.
It is not known how much EA spent on developing the game.
EA launched the app simultaneously with the release of the full home console and PC editions. In total the game has sold-through an estimated 3.2 million units across all consoles worldwide, with EA’s marketing spend helping generate buzz for the iPad and iPhone editions too.
The success of the iPad and iPhone editions is another indication of Electronic Arts’ digital diversification strategy, with the publisher placing more focus on recently emerged platforms such as mobiles and Facebook.
