Around 1,000 games already released for tvOS but only eight make it into Top 50 most popular apps

Games flood but fail to dominate Apple TV

Developers have flocked to the new Apple TV but so far, few have found significant success.

Engadget reports that the device’s marketplace already hosts more than 2,600 apps – and 38 per cent of those are games. That means there are around 1,000 games on tvOS.

However, the bulk of the most popular apps have turned out to be entertainment products, most commonly streaming platforms such as Netflix and Hulu.

In fact, out of the Top 50 most popular apps, only eight are games. Meanwhile 28 are from the entertainment category.

The figures follow similar reports that Apple TV games reportedly make less than £70 per day so far.

The new Apple TV was announced earlier this year, and features a new remote with motion control and touch input designed for games.
