Google Store finally matches up to Apple App Store

One of Apple’s key smartphone marketing advantages has neutralised.

Google has stated that there are around 700,000 apps now available for Android devices, meaning that it is now on parity with Apple’s all-conquering App Store according to VentureBeat.

Apple announced in September that it had hit the 700,000 app milestone, so the true number isn’t specifically known.

Microsoft’s Windows Phone store, meanwhile, has around 100,000 apps available.

There’s no denying that software is the key battleground in the modern smartphone market. While handsets such as the iPhone 5, Samsung Galaxy S III and the Nokia Lumia 920 all have their own strengths and weaknesses, the differences in camera resolution or battery life pale compared to what software customers are able to access.
