GungHo has teamed up with Rovio to cross-promote the two studios’ leading franchises Puzzle & Dragons and Angry Birds.
The promotion begun yesterday with a themed illustration contest by Rovio which has called on fans to draw pictures of the Angry Birds in the world of Puzzle & Dragons. The competition will close on November 20th.
GungHo meanwhile will be adding an Angry Birds-themed dungeon in its own title, complete with collectable characters based on Rovio’s IP, from November 18th for a limited time.
The partnership is similar to one that saw the Japanese publisher work with Clash of Clans developer Supercell in another cross-promotion scheme earlier this year.
After forming a close working relationship, GungHo later purchased a 51 per cent stake in Supercell for $1.5 billion.
"We are excited to announce the collaboration of Puzzle & Dragons and the Angry Birds games from Rovio Entertainment,” said GungHo producer and Puzzle & Dragons creator Daisuke Yamamoto.
“Angry Birds is one of the most recognisable entertainment franchises in the world, and we are thrilled to be working alongside Rovio to give our fans a look at what it would be like if Angry Birds characters invaded the world of Puzzle & Dragons."
To date, Puzzle & Dragons has been downloaded more than 20 million times. In July, the title was said to be making $4.9 million a day.
GungHo’s flagship game was recently released on the UK App Store, and at the time of writing, is not listed in the top 200 grossing apps.
