New smartphone alleged to go on sale just weeks after press conference

Rumour: Apple to reveal iPhone 5 on October 4th

Apple’s new CEO Tim Cook will showcase the next iPhone at a special event on October 4th, further reports suggest.

The company is widely expected to unveil the next edition of its iPhone within a matter of weeks, though no dates or details are official.

Over the past six months, analysts and bloggers have fuelled debate on whether the next iPhone will be a full revision of the device.

Some have claimed the next version will be an iPhone 5, resplendent with a complete redesign, while others suggest Apple is only ready to reveal an upgraded iPhone 4.

In this time frame, Develop has heard from numerous developers also speculating that an Apple TV device will finally be announced. The rumour has yet to be substantiated.

Now tech site All Things Digital claims to have heard from anonymous sources who claim Apple will hold a press conference on October 4th.

“Sources added that the plan is now to make the new device available for purchase within a few weeks after the announcement,” the website claims.

All Things Digital was relatively non-committal with its sourced date, claiming that “Apple could certainly change its plans any time”.

The publication has a track record of publishing rumours that turn out to be accurate.
