Three days and 4m sales for iPhone 4S

Apple has announced that it sold in excess of 4m iPhone 4S handsets in the device’s first three days of availability.

That works out at around 55,555 units per hour, or 926 units per second. It’s also twice as many as iPhone 4 sold in the same period.

In addition, since its release earlier last week around 25m Apple customers are already using the new iOS 5 software while around 20m customers have signed up to iCloud.

iPhone 4S is off to a great start with more than 4m sold in its first weekend – the most ever for a phone and more than double the iPhone 4 launch during its first three days,” Apple’s senior VP of worldwide product marketing Philip Schiller stated.

iPhone 4S is a hit with customers around the world, and together with iOS 5 and iCloud, is the best iPhone ever.”

On October 28th the iPhone 4S will be rolled out to 22 more countries, with an additional 70 to follow by the end of the year.
