PetVille and Mafia Wars 2 have become the latest titles to be dropped by Zynga as part of its company-wide restructuring initiative announced in October.
News of the closures comes after other titles such as FishVille and Treasure Isle were also closed down.
According to AppData, PetVille still reports an impressive one million monthly average users, although only 60,000 of these users play daily.
Mafia Wars 2 meanwhile has struggled to match or surpass the success of its predecessor, with just 10,000 daily average users, and 200,000 a month. The original Mafia Wars meanwhile continues to bring in 270,000 daily average users, and nearly one million monthly users.
With the closure of Zynga Japan, other titles including Montopia, Mojitomo and Machitsuku have also been dropped.
Announcing the news last month of the Petville shutdown, Zynga offered longtime players a one-time bonus package for games such as CastleVille, ChefVille, FarmVille 2, Mafia Wars and YoVille.
Despite this however, many users expressed their disappointment at Zynga’s decision to close the game on the PetVille Facebook page, which has 7.5 million likes.
12 games have been cancelled by Zynga so far, with other titles including Vampire Wars, Mafia Wars Shakedown, ForestVille, World Scramble Challenge
The game closures come as part of Zynga’s previously revealed plans to enact cost-cutting measures at the firm. As well as shutting down Zynga Japan, the social gaming outfit has also closed its Boston studio, reduced the number of staff at Austin and has cut back on resources allocated to The Ville.
