Naughty Dog re-thinks Uncharted Tweets

It was an interesting idea on paper but in reality Uncharted 2’s integrated Twitter functionality became very irksome very quickly – and developer Naughty Dog has responded by temporarily disabling the functionality.

Anyone with either developers of journalists on their Twitter feed may well have seen an eruption of updates in recent weeks chronicling player’s progress through Sony’s upcoming title.

However, with constant play often producing several updates an hour, Twitterers soon started to bemoan the functionality, vowing to strike those subscribed to the service off of their friends list.

Speaking on the PlayStation Blog, Naughty Dog co-president Evan Wells stated: So we’ve seen some concern about the frequency of updates for those choosing to use Uncharted 2: Among Thieves’ Twitter support.

We obviously want to provide the best experience for everybody, so for the time being we’ve disabled Twitter updates on chapter completions. The option will still exist in the menus when the game ships, but if activated, it will do nothing. Some time after the game has shipped, we’ll release a patch to reactivate the feature, but with a limit on the frequency of updates.

We’re certainly sorry for any inconvenience, but I guess that’s the risk you run when trying to blaze a new trail in the complicated world of Social Media!”
