New 3DS XL sales up 361% in Japan as Pokémon Sun and Moon launch

In news that will come as no surprise, Pokemon Sun and Moon were the best-selling titles in Japan for the week ending November 20th, according to data from Famitsu.

As previously reported, the duo sold 1.9m units between them in their first week on shelves in the region. While impressive, this comes short of the 2.096m that 2013’s Pokmon X and Y shifted in their first week in Japan.

The duo had a positive impact on 3DS, with sales of Nintendo’s New 3DS LL rising 361 per cent week-on-week. That was the best-selling hardware in the region for this sales period ahead of the PS4, which shifted 26,267 units.

Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare rises two places to No.2, shifting 11,491 copies, ahead of the Special Edition of Skyrim, which slips one place to No.3 in its second week on shelves.

Battlefield 1 also rises four places to No.4 despite a 35 per cent sales decline. Meanwhile, last week’s top game Fate/Extella: The Umbral Star from Marvelous falls from first and second place. Last week the Vita edition was No.1, but that falls to No.6, while the PS4 edition drops to No.5.

PS4 Pro came in at third place last week, with sales dipping 82 per cent week-on-week. To date, the hardware has shifted 76,310 units in Japan.
